Trainer Randy Matthews sends his horses to Stowell Farm whenever he wants to rest them. The farm is located outside LaGrange, KY and is owned and operated by Richard and Robin McCreery.
Robin and Richard are very friendly and knowledgeable about horses in general, and Tech No Prisoners in particular. Richard will share his knowledge and his stories with little if any prodding. And he’s quick to offer you a beer.
The McCreary’s take exceptional
care of the horses under their supervision. They medicate them when necessary,
they attend to their injuries, if any, and, of course, feed and board them.
Their feed is a mixture of sweet feed and oats.
The McCreerys have plenty of pasture for the horses. When we visited they had about a dozen horses. Tech No Prisoners was in a pasture with her girlfriend, Faith, and the two seemed to get along very well.
If you go to visit Tech No Prisoners bring plenty of carrots because she loves them as doses Faith. In the hour or so I was there, the two horses ate a 5 lb. bag of carrots between them.
And when you go be sure to take some Budweiser beer for Richard. But don’t bring cans, because he won’t accept them. He only drinks Bud from the bottle.
