Charlie and Nancy visited Techie over the weekend and sent me photos. I put them on the web page and then asked Charlie when Techie was going to start training again. Here is his reply:

"The tentative schedule for Techy is to go back to the track in the middle of February. I believe that she would walk and jog for a couple of weeks, then gallop for 3-4 weeks, then 5-6 works each scheduled about 1 week apart. That would put her first start around the end of the Keeneland meet or the beginning of the Churchill meet."

Techy was moved from the track to the farm at the end of last month. She has a new home at a very nice farm in Goshen. She is at the Bingham Farm, and being cared for by Holly and Daniel Wilson. They are leasing part of the farm, and taking care of their horses and layups. Daniel is a blacksmith, and I believe Holly's background is in Hunter-Jumpers. The farm is located off of state rd 1694, just past Hermitage Farm. If anyone is interested in going out to see her, please contact me or Randy, and I will try and give directions and the code to get in the gate. Nancy and I have been to see her several times, and she looks great, and couldn't be any happier.

Techy's tendon is doing fine. Holly blistered her front legs last week, and they look great. She said that she will blister them again in about another week. I spoke with Randy the other day about her injury, and asked him if he thought the tendon would be a long term problem. His response was that it wouldn't be a problem, and that he wasn't even sure that she needed to stop training - that we could have gone on with her, but he wanted to err on the side of caution, as he thinks she is a really nice filly, and the time off would do her good in the long run.

Techy's buddy at the farm is a Yes It's True filly, a 2yo named I'm The Truth. It has been fun to watch Techy develope, as before she was very very quiete and a little nervous, and now she has become the dominate one in the paddock.

I will try to get a financial statement out by the end of the month, to let everyone know where we are at. Please contact me with any questions. If you are contacting me by email, please use chardiz@bellsouth.net, as this is coming from Nancy's computer, and sometimes I don't see those that are sent to her.

Thanks,

Charlie

Well, we have another setback. After returning to trackside from Ellis Park, Randy decided to have Techy's tendon ultra sounded. Although the vet had told him that it was fine, Randy felt that there was still a problem. The ultra sound found a small tear on the inside corner of the tendon. Randy said that it was just very small, and that with the proper rest, and time of to heal, it really should not be a problem. Techy is to have 6 months off, and will be able to resume training in February. She is staying at the track for 1 month, and then will probably be moved to La Croix Farm in La Grange.

Although it is very disappointing, as we were so close to racing, most horses don't make it to the races as two year olds. The time off will give her time to grow and develope, and she should come back better than ever.

Please contact me with any questions you may have. Also, I have the ultra sound photos if anyone is interested in seeing them.

We are currently without power, but I will try to check my emails at work. My cell # is (502) 550-7418. Also, I will try to get a financial statement out to everyone by the end of the week. We had just enough money to cover Techy's bills through August, but will not have enough to cover her from here on out.

After a very eventful day at Ellis Park yesterday, we have good news and bad news concerning Techy. First the good news - after going to back to the track after a few days of walking, she galloped very strongly, and her legs were fine with no signs of inflammation in the one tendon. However, following her gallop yesterday, she tied up very badly. The vet pumped her full of fluids several times yesterday, but she still wasn't right at about 7:00 pm, so they took her to the Stone Ridge Equine Clinic near Ellis Park, where they continued to put fluids into her all night. I talked to her vet Dr. Barry, last night at about midnight, and she said that her enzyme levels were still off of the charts. However, she said that everything had been handled quickly that she felt she would be fine, and that there should be no long term damage.

We got the OK on her at about 11:00 AM this morning. She is going to be fine physically, but Randy is going to send her to the farm for a couple of weeks, more for the mental trauma she went through. The vet wants her stall bound for 1 week, then she will be transported to Richard's farm in La Grange for a couple of weeks. Then she will go back to the track. Randy said that she will not have lost too much fitness, but will need a couple of works to have her ready to race.

For those who are unfamiliar with horses tying up, it would be similar to a human athlete who cramps up following a strenuous work out, where they become dehydrated, and the build up of lactate acid in the muscles cause the muscles to "tie up". Maybe we can get Dr. King to explain the process in a little more detail.

Needless to say, we won't be racing this weekend. So anyone who was torn over going to Ellis or the UK/UL football game, your decision is a little easier.

On a very positive note, Randy's 2yo filly - June's Best, broke her maiden first time out yesterday in the Mdn50K. Techy worked with her from the gate last week, and they ended up noses on the wire together after Techy spotted her a couple of lengths at the start. Also, Nancy and I talked with Randy's exercise rider yesterday, and she said that Techy was a lot more horse than her.

Contact me with any questions concerning Techy. I am by no means an expert on horses tying up, but I learned more yesterday than I cared to know about the subject. I will pass along whatever information I can.

Randy didn't enter Techy for the race on Thursday, as we hit a little bump in the road. Techy had a little fluid in a tendon sheath which Randy refered to as a Wind Puff, if I understood him right. He said that he didn't think it would amount to anything, and that the majority of 2yos get them due to training. Anyway, he walked her for 3 days, and she went back to the track yesterday. Everything seems to be fine now, but we will know better for sure today. If it stays fine, she will breeze on Wednesday, and we will enter her on Thursday for next Sunday. Randy feels that there is not a problem, but would prefer to err on the side of caution.

Not sure if we would have gotten in on Thursday anyway as the race overfilled. Also, there is a very tough horse entered in that race by the name of Wood Violet.

Nancy and I are going to Ellis this afternoon, so we will see how she is after going back to the track yesterday. Will send back a report this evening.

Techy got her gate card this morning, and we are now officially ready to race. She worked 4f in company from the gate this morning in 48 2/5. They officially put the work down as a 5f work in 1:02 flat, but that was just her gallop out time. She broke 2nd among the four workers, and spotted the leader 2 lengths. Randy said that the leader came off the rail a little, and she went into a very small hole between the horse and the rail, pulling even with the other horse at the wire. Randy said they were noses apart, but from his vantage he couldn't tell who was first. Tommy Pompell was up for the work, and will be riding her for her first race. Both Randy and Tommy were very pleased with the work, and how she went into a tight spot with no hesitation.

We may be racing as soon as next weekend. Randy got the Ellis Racing Secretary to write an extra - Mcl50k going 5f for 2yo fillies. Randy would prefer to start her at 5f, so if they can fill the race, we will go there. If not, then we will enter for the 28th or the 31st - both msw races going 5 1/2f.

Entries for next Saturday are due by Wednesday, so we will know then if we get in for Saturday. Will keep everyone posted.

Team CHR,

On Wednesday Techy broke from the gate for the first time. She did everything perfect, loading and standing like a pro, and outbroke all the other horses. It was like she had been doing it for years. Randy then worked her yesterday, Saturday 8/9 from the gate with the hopes she would get her gate card. She was working with three other horses, going 4f. She broke dead last and gave the other horses 5-6 lengths at the start. She then rallied up the rail and nailed the leader at the wire coming up the inside of the other horses. She was clocked in :48 1/5, second fastest of 19 works yesterday. Other than the start, Randy was very happy with the work. She didn't get her gate card, but Randy will have her back there next week.

We went through the condition book and they have 2yo filly msw races carded for the 16th, 28th, and 31st. The 16th is too soon, so we expect Techy to make her first start on either the 28th or 31st. I believe that both of those races are set at 5 1/2f. So if possible, keep those dates open.

Talk to you soon,

Just a quick update as to what has been going on with Tech No Prisoners. She moved with Randy and his horses to Ellis Park, and Randy said that she has taken to her new surroundings very well, and did so immediately. He said that she is very happy, and has been training forwardly.

Techy has had two works since she has been at Ellis. She worked 4f on 7/27 in :50 4/5, and again yesterday, Sunday 8/3 - she worked 4f in company in :49 2/5, which was a bullet of 14. Randy said that she worked with a horse which had already won a couple of races, and worked very well, getting a little tired at the end. He was pleased with the work. She has also been to the gate a few times, and has handled it very well. She hasn't broken from the gate yet, just been loaded, closed in, and walked out.

The plan is still to get her started at Ellis. I asked Randy yesterday if he thought she would be ready by then, and he said he thought so, but said that she would tell us when she was ready.

Changing the subject, we have sold 48 of the 50 shares at this point. I want to have them all sold by the time she makes her first start. If anyone has someone interested, let them know. If we haven't sold them at that point, Nancy and I will buy the remaining two shares.

Hope to see everyone soon at the races. Contact me with any questions.

Tech No Prisoners worked 3f (3 furlongs) this morning in :37 4/5 over a track which was labled as muddy. I'm not sure if muddy is accurate, but the track was definately slow and tiring. Her internal fractions were :13, :12 3/5, and :12 1/5. It was a very nice work, (considering the track condition I would say that is an excellent work; especially with each call being a couple ticks faster than the previous one.)

I look forward to her debut. and her excercise rider - Dennis Roberson, said that she is r).lly moving forward, and he could see marked improvement.

Churchill is moving everyone out of trackside by 7/21 when Techy will go to Ellis Park. The EPA has to test the soil there, and they have to dig up the track. Randy will be taking all his horses to Ellis for about 6 weeks while the track is out of commission.

Just a quick note to let everyone know what has been going on with Techy. Following the little procedure on her shins, she has been progressing very nicely. After the shin work, she spent 10 days walking the shed row, 10 days jogging, and 10 days galloping. I have not been out to see her, but Randy has said that she is galloping very strongly and he has seen marked progress. She will have a light breeze on Sunday morning at about 8:30. If anyone would like to watch, come on out. Randy said that she will be going 3f (3 furlongs - there are 8 furlongs in a mile), but I am not sure if she will be in company, or by herself. The time frame for her first start has not changed, and we are looking towards the middle of August.

I would like to thank everyone who came out on Sunday June 22. I hope you able to get all your questions answered, and had a good time. Also, Randy said the skin condition from the chiggers she had is gone and she looks great.

Also, I would like to apologize for being so late with updates. We have had our computer in and out of the shop for over a month. Thank you Harry for recommending Jeff. He did a great job!

At this point we have sold 47 of the 50 shares. Hopefully we can close this out in the next week or two, and I will get certificates out to everyone. If you know anyone interested, let them know.

Hope to see you Sunday,

Here's the run down of what's been happening with Techy over the past month - She was moved from the farm to the track on the Monday after the Derby. After acclamating her to her new home, she spent the next couple of weeks jogging and galloping, developing general fitness. She had her first timed workout on Friday, 5/23 - going 2 furlongs in :25.2. The next Friday, she breezed 3 furlongs in :39.2, and last Friday, she breezed 3 furlongs in :38.0.

She is coming along nicely. At this point, Randy is pointing her to begin racing at the middle to end of August.

We are going to have a day at the stable on Sunday, June 22, at 1:00. We will bring Techy out for everyone to see, and it will be a good way for everyone to meet each other, and ask all the questions you may have of myself and Randy. We look forward to seeing everyone. Everyone who can attend, contact me and we will coordinate on meeting at the front gate and going in together.

Also, at this point we have received checks for 42 of the 50 shares. We have gotten verbal committments on a couple of more, but have not received their money. If you know of anyone who might be interested, bring them along on Sunday. We look forward to seeing everyone on the 22nd.

Thanks,

Techy was moved to Trackside on Monday (May 5) to resume training. She walked the shedrow on Tuesday, and has been jogging since. I am not sure when Randy will put a work into her, but it probably won't be for a few weeks.

Randy is in barn E at Trackside, and Techy is in stall 6.

He has been taking her to the track after the renovation break when there are fewer horses on the track. I believe that Nancy and I are going over on Sunday morning (May 11) to take some pictures, if anyone is interested in joining us.

We will try to set a day in the next couple of weeks for anyone interested in meeting Randy and Techy, and give everyone the opportunity to ask questions and get to know each other.

Thanks,

Charlie Farrell

Just a quick note. Techy has been out on the farm since April 4, and will be out there until shortly after the Derby. She is doing very well and is enjoying herself. Her training regimen will step up once she goes to trackside. If there are no set backs, we should look to about the end of July to start racing.

Also, thanks to one of our partners - Harry Jacobson-Beyer, we now have a website! <http://charliehorseracing.com/>

We still have some more info to input, but Harry has done a great job creating this website. We would like some feed-back on it, for example, what other things would you like on it.

Harry has put alot of pictures up, and we will continue to post them as we move forward.

Thanks, we look forward to your feedback.

Techy had her last work today before heading back to the farm for a month of rest. She breezed 2 furlongs today by herself in 24 2/5 seconds. It was visually impressive to all of us watching, and none of us expected that nice of a work. She broke off nice and easy, picking up speed around the turn, and when she hit the stretch, she dropped her head and really took off. The internal fractions were 12 2/5 and 12 flat. It has been very interesting watching her learn and develope. Christoper Bindner has done a very nice job with her.

Techy will be going to Richard McCreary's farm in La Grange for the next 30-45 days. She will be vanned there either tomorrow or Saturday. Hopefully she will get some nice weather and green grass while out there, and then have her ready for the track.

I am attaching a couple of recent pictures. She really has grown. I will also respond tonight to every one who emailed in the last couple of days.

Thanks,

Charlie

Just a quick update to let everyone know where we are at. Techy has been at the High Point Training Center since the beginning of the year. She is coming along very nicely in her training, and we have not encountered any set backs, so she is still on schedule. Techy has been galloping all winter, and she began some one furlong works about three weeks ago. She was scheduled to have a quarter mile breeze last Friday and one more this week before she goes back to the farm. She will be at the training center for about another week, at which point she will go to the farm for 30-45 days for some green grass and R&R. It will then be off to the track.

She has grown quite a bit since most of you have seen her last fall, and she has gotten more grey in her coat.

We have sold 33 shares of the 50 so far. If anyone knows of someone interested, and need an information packet, let me know and I can mail it out or send an email.

Hope that everyone had a great winter and look forward to seeing everyone, now that racing is coming back to our area.

Thanks,

Charlie Farrell
